President Tinubu delegates Shettima to represent Nigeria at the UN General Assembly, but refused to delegate power to Shettima while on vacation in the UK and France. Are you thinking what I am thinking?
For the second time in a row, Tinubu will miss the world’s biggest diplomatic stage, sending Vice President Kashim Shettima to lead Nigeria’s delegation. No be juju be that?
So we ask: What is President Tinubu afraid of in the United States?
For a president who loves show-off, convoy and flamboyance, for him not to show-off at UNGA, your guess is as good as mine.
From Obasanjo to Buhari, every Nigerian president understood UNGA. It is where you market Nigeria, woo investors, and defend your country. But Tinubu is hiding. Why?
Is it fear of protests by Nigerians in Diaspora? Fear of questions about his past that Americans keep asking? Or fear of being snubbed by world leaders who have seen through the Renewed Hope charade?
A president who flies to Paris at will, to London at will, to Dubai at will, suddenly develops cold feet when it is the United States and the United Nations.
You cannot claim to be Giant of Africa and be absent where giants gather.
If the President cannot face the world, he should not lead Nigeria. You cannot govern by proxy.
Shettima cannot be de facto president at home and abroad.
Nigeria deserves a President who can show up.
