The unveiling of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Presidential Campaign Council has placed three prominent sons of Edo South in distinct positions within the national campaign structure: Chief John Oyegun, Senator Ehigie Uzamere and Dr. Don Pedro Obaseki.
Oyegun, former Governor of Edo State and pioneer National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, has been appointed Chairman of the Campaign Advisory Board. Senator Ehigie Uzamere, a former representative of Edo South in the Senate, is among the Senior Campaign Advisers, while Dr. Don Pedro Obaseki has been appointed Director of Entertainment and Creative Industry under the Diversity and Support Groups Directorate.
The significance goes beyond the number of Edo names on the list. Their assignments place three different strands of political experience—senior institutional counsel, legislative experience and engagement with the creative and support-group constituency—within a single national campaign architecture.
That gives Edo South more than visibility. It creates an opportunity for its experience, networks and political capital to contribute to a national political undertaking.
The wider structure is headed by Kashim Ibrahim-Imam as Chairman, with Nasir El-Rufai as Deputy Chairman and Senator Austin Akobundu as Director-General and Campaign Manager. Dele Momodu oversees Media and Communications, Senator Dino Melaye handles Contact and Mobilisation, while Mohammed Hayatudeen coordinates the Policy Team.
For Edo South, the significance is therefore not simply that three of its sons have been appointed. It is that they have been assigned different responsibilities across the campaign’s political, advisory and mobilisation architecture.
Representation, however, is only the beginning. The real value of such appointments lies in the quality of the contribution made, the influence brought to bear and the results ultimately delivered.
Three Edo South voices. Three distinct responsibilities. One national assignment.
Edo South is present. Edo South is participating. And Edo South has a responsibility to make its contribution count.
